Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience.
  2. Strong organizational, management and leadership skills.
  3. Demonstrated success, general leadership ability and personal characteristics necessary for working with staff, parents and community.
  4. The ability to plan/prioritize and manage own work activities/multiple tasks including service delivery, collaboration and correspondence, and record keeping responsibilities.
  5. Alternative qualifications as the Superintendent and School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The FSS will assist the School Social Worker in supporting students and families with home visits, transportation arrangements, attendance intervention plans, and linkage to community resources.
  • The FSS may teach elective courses in the middle school and the high school for students in need of additional skill building for emotional regulation and executive functioning.
  • The FSS will assist the School Counselors with family outreach, including coordination of one informational/educational event per quarter.
  • The FSS will be an active member of each school’s Student Support/Intervention Team for identification of students and families in need of supportive interventions.
  • The FSS will participate as one of the Adult Leaders for the secondary Sources of Strength program.
  • The FSS will assist the School Counselors with supporting social skill development and connecting students to peers via such programs as breakfast buddies, lunch bunches, and after school programming, including GCPS activities and athletics. 
  • Proactively establishes effective partnerships with families of students in need of academic, behavioral, and/or social-emotional supports
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships with families, outside agencies, and community partners;
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school/system policies and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

 

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
